Homes all throughout New England have one main feature in common: front porches. The idea of a front porch was to gather as a family while remaining a part of the community. It wasn’t uncommon for families all across the neighborhood to gather on their front porches at the end of the day and just bond. Families spent time not only coming together on their front porch, but creating a warm an inviting space for anyone who enters their home. Nowadays, with the adoption of luxurious backyard spaces and the desire for privacy that front porches fail to accommodate, people rarely use their front porch as much.
